Northwestern Falls to Nebraska 80-64 in Regular Season Finale

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Northwestern women's basketball team went into the half tied 30-30 with Nebraska, but could not take control in the second half and fell 80-64 to the Cornhuskers on the road Sunday.
The Wildcats (9-20, 2-16) had three players score in double figures, led by Paige Mott, who had 18 points and six rebounds. Hailey Weaver tacked on 12 points and three steals from the bench and Caroline Lau helped out with 11 points, four assists and two steals.
The Northwestern defense caused its share of mistakes in Sunday's game, forcing 19 Nebraska turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 15 points on the other end of the floor. Sydney Wood's four steals led the way individually for the Wildcats.
How It Happened
Northwestern struggled out of the gate, falling behind 12-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Nebraska kept adding to that lead, building a 21-11 advantage before Northwestern went on an 8-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Lau, to narrow its deficit to 21-19. The Wildcats then kept gaining ground and tied the contest at 30-30 heading into halftime. Northwestern dominated in the paint, scoring 14 of its 23 points close to the basket.
Nebraska proceeded to take over in the third quarter and the Wildcats entered the fourth trailing 60-50. Northwestern's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled eight of the team's 20 third-quarter points.
Northwestern could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 80-64.
