"Everything is Earned" - By Sydney Supple

I had a special moment this past weekend that I felt compelled to share. Let me preface this by saying this is not your typical homer highlight story. It was simply a moment that I was able to share with a few of my teammates when we paused in between innings on Saturday and looked around at the incredible stadium we were playing in at Clemson. We took in the packed house of a few thousand softball fans that were there just to see this game, the roar of the crowd and speakers, and the feeling that lingered over the field as it was an exciting game.
As a college student-athlete, it is so easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of the game and focus on every pitch and what you need to be doing to win a ball game. All very important thoughts that need to be had, but at times you need to take a few seconds in between innings and be present in the moment so you can appreciate where your feet are and let your heart be filled with gratitude. This game is so special. The life we live traveling over the country, proudly representing a University we call our home, all while playing a game we love with our best friends. This is a dream come true and it is important to remind ourselves how lucky we are to be on this journey together at all times.
Now walking away from this past weekend we were far from satisfied, I promise you that. But we are stronger, smarter, and have worked harder than ever this week. We are taking steps forward internally and physically every day. In sports, there are going to be days when the game can flat-out humble you, but it is about how you are willing to get back up on your feet the next morning and continue to put your heart on the line again.
Heading into the Mary Nutter we understand this is a tournament that our program deeply values and embraces. A weekend where the best of the best square off and you are surrounded by one of the best atmospheres in the game of softball. Each matchup we will have this weekend provides us with an opportunity to continue to show who we are and how we compete.
Our one focus this weekend is not to be the perfect team, but to be the toughest team in the desert.
Nothing is promised, everything is earned. We are willing to earn it all.
