McKeown Names Lau, McWilliams and Mott 2023-24 Captains

EVANSTON, Ill. - Caroline Lau, Paige Mott, and Jasmine McWilliams have been named captains of the Northwestern women's basketball team for the 2023-24 season, Head Coach Joe McKeown announced on Friday.
"We're excited about this season's captains and we expect a lot out of all three," McKeown said about the group. "Paige has been in this position and established herself as a leader in this program. Jazz has had leadership skills since she got here; she embraces the role of student-athlete and knows what it's like to win in the Big Ten. Caroline's talent speaks for itself and we're excited about her work ethic and her ability to be a great team-player. They all want to be team leaders on and off the court."
The group will look to lead Northwestern to a bounce-back campaign against a loaded Big Ten conference this year.
Lau, a sophomore, is poised for a breakout season as the starting point guard for the Wildcats. The Westport, Conn. native averaged 8.2 points in the final 13 games of last season off the bench. She dished out 78 assists on the season, the most by a NU first-year since Veronica Burton in 2018-19.
Mott, a second-year captain, will also look to build on a successful 2022-23 campaign as she prepares for her senior season in Evanston. The forward started the final 25 games for the Wildcats last year, averaging 8.4 points per game on the season. Mott scored in double-digits 10 times in the 'Cats final 13 games.
McWilliams continues to build as a player and a leader after starting a career-high 20 games for Northwestern last season. The senior set a new career high in single-game points on January 2, when she dropped ten against Michigan State.
The 'Cats kick off the 2023-24 campaign with an exhibition against Lewis on November 2 at Welsh-Ryan Arena before hosting UIC for the regular season opener on November 9.
