‘Cats Close Impressive Fall With Runner-Up Finish At Stanford Intercollegiate

Nguyen, Cai earn top-15 finishes
STANFORD, Calif. (October 23, 2023) – Lauryn Nguyen and Jennifer Cai both placed inside the top 15 as the Northwestern University women's golf team wrapped up its fall season in style over the weekend, taking home a runner-up finish at the Stanford Intercollegiate in Stanford, Calif.
The 'Cats concluded play at the par-71, 6,269-yard Stanford Golf Course with a two-under-par 850 (285-283-282) to finish back of only USC (279-284-280=843) in the team race. Ranked No. 22 in the latest Golfweek Women's Team Collegiate Rankings, Northwestern finished four strokes clear of No. 1 Stanford (286-279-289=854), one of seven teams ranked above it that the Wildcats placed in front of. The Trojans' Catherine Park (68-69-69=206) took home individual medalist honors.
Nguyen led the charge for the Wildcats in California, posting her second top-five finish of the fall. Bolstered by a second-round five-under-par 66, the Seattle, Wash. native closed the 54-hole event with a four-under-par 209 to earn a share of fifth place.
Cai put an exclamation point of an impressive fall of her own for the 'Cats. Out of Irvine, Calif., Cai bookended play with one-under-par rounds of 70 to climb into a tie for 11th place with a one-under-par 212 (70-72-70).
Ashley Yun turned in the low 18-hole effort of the event for Northwestern, firing a career-low tying three-under-par 68 during final-round play en route to one-over-par 214 (73-73-68) that saw her finish tied for 22nd. Like Yun, Jieni Li shot her top round of the weekend over her final 18 holes, handing in an even-par 71 to climb into a tie for 35th at 217 (74-72-71). Dianna Lee rounded out the Wildcat starting five with a 220 (72-75-73), tied for 53rd.
