'Cats Split Squad For Weekend In Chicago, Columbia

CHICAGO, Illinois & COLUMBIA, Missouri -- Northwestern cross country, ranked #4 in the Midwest Region, will split the roster across two races this weekend with half the squad headed to the Loyola Lakefront Classic on Chicago's north side, and half competing at the Gans Creek Classic, hosted by the University of Missouri.

In Columbia the Wildcats will face a field loaded with Midwest Region contenders looking for a preview of the course that will host the Midwest Regional Championship in November. The starting line at 9:45am CT will include #2 Illinois (ranked #28 nationally) and #5 Minnesota, along with Iowa, Missouri, Drake, Northern Iowa, Illinois State, Kansas, Southern Illinois, Creighton and South Dakota.
This weekend is an opportunity to measure ourselves against teams we know we'll see again in the postseason," said head coach Jill Miller. "Training has gone very well over the last three weeks and I'm proud of that work, now we get to see how that translates during the race on Friday. Certainly we're excited the chance to survey the Regional Championship course in order to be better prepared for November."

Kalea Bartolotto, Ava Earl, Skye Ellis, Serena Frolli, Katherine Hessler, Anna Hightower, Ari Marks, Rachel McCardell, Olivia Verbeke, Maddy Whitman
Meanwhile ten Wildcats will head south down Sheridan Road and Lakeshore Drive to Chicago's Montrose Harbor for the 43rd edition of the Loyola Lakefront Invitational. A true Chicagoland celebration of the sport, the event begins with elementary and middle school races on Thursday, while the Sean Earl Collegiate Division races will open Friday's action with the women's 6K slated for 1pm CT, and high school competition closes the weekend. In addition to local competitors Loyola, DePaul and Chicago State, the 'Cats will run up against two of the Big Ten's best in #25 Ohio State and #26 Wisconsin.
