
NU Falls 4-3 to Illinois in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Northwestern fell 4-3 to Illinois on the road on Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats, ranked No. 37 in the country, fell to 12-7 and 7-2 in the Big Ten while Illinois, ranked No. 51, improved to 14-7 and 7-2.
The 'Cats started strong with a doubles point thanks to a 6-2 win from Clarisa Hand and Maria Shusharina at No. 1 and a clutch 7-5 win from Briana Crowley and Christina Hand at No. 3 after nearly an hour of play.
NU lead 2-0 after a quick 6-0, 6-1 win from Justine Leong at No. 6, and then went on to lead 3-2 after Sydney Pratt won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3. Despite winning a set each in close battles, neither Ema Lazic nor Ch. Hand could pull out the fourth point on the road, and the Illini claimed a 4-3 win.
The 'Cats are back in action on the road next weekend in the close of Big Ten regular season action. They'll face Michigan State at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Michigan at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
