Wildcats Outlast Kansas State for 4-2 Road Win

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Northwestern held on for a 4-2 road win at Kansas State on Saturday at the Body First Indoor Tennis Center.
The 'Cats won their fourth match in a row and improved to 5-3, while dropping the hosting Wildcats to 6-4.
The match took over five hours with only three courts available and four of the six singles contests going three sets.
Northwestern picked up the doubles point early thanks to a 6-2 win at No. 3 from Justine Leong and Christina Hand and a 7-5 comeback win from Hannah McColgan and Sydney Pratt at No. 2
The first three singles matches were at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5. The 'Cats took two of those three, sparked by Clarissa Hand taking down No. 96 Karine-Marion Job 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 for her second ranked win this season. Job was an All-Big 12 second team selection last season in singles and played the entire campaign at No. 1.
Kansas State got one back at No. 3, where Leong fell in straight sets to No. 108 Rosanna Maffei.
Briana Crowley also took three sets, but secured a win to make it 3-1 overall in team score with a 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Ioana Gheorghita.
The second set of singles matches started at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6. Pratt fell in a tight 7-6 (2), 6-4, result, playing at No. 2 for the first time this season.
Ema Lazic took her first set at No. 5, but in the end it was Christina Hand who clinched the match at 4-2 with a 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 comeback at No. 6 singles over Anna Turco.
Northwestern puts its win streak to the test tomorrow at Kansas, who sports a 6-4 record. The match is set to start at 12 p.m. CT.
