RESULTS: 2022 Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Wildcats opened up the Outdoor Track season by adding multiple names to the all-time Top-10 lists with their performance at North Carolina State's famed Raleigh Relays.

Kalea Bartolotto, Amanda Mosborg, and Maggie Mason were the first 'Cats to face the competitive fields in the 10,000m where they found themselves toeing the line with athletes from around the country. After rounding the track for 25 laps, Bartolotto and Mosborg cemented their names in the record book. Bartolotto's finishing time of 34:53.47 placed her 14th overall in the second heat and improved upon her previous best by nearly 5 seconds. This further solidified her place in the team's history as the third fastest to cover 10,000m wearing the purple and white. Mosborg's debut performance of 35:27.12 placed her 31st overall in the second and moved her to number 7 on the all-time list.

The 'Cats returned to action on Friday for the 5,000m. Emily Casaclang, Deepti Choudhury, Ava Earl, and Olivia Verbeke laced up their spikes and took to the oval in their first time racing the distance. In another slate of competitive heats, Northwestern held their own. Casaclang came through the line in 16:52.20, placing 4th in her heat and taking over the number 9 spot on the 'Cats all-time list. Choudhury (17:18.84), Earl (17:19.31), and Verbeke (17:20.78) finished the race separated by only a matter of seconds—showcasing Northwestern's developing depth.

Head Coach Jill Miller summed up the first outing of the season for the 'Cats: "The group who traveled to Raleigh learned quite a bit about what it takes to compete at a high level on the track. I'm excited for them to apply this experience to make meaningful changes to positively impact the rest of the outdoor season."

Northwestern will be back on the track competing next at the Illini Open hosted by the University of Illinois on April 8th.
