MADISON, Wis. — Northwestern closed out the indoor portion of its track schedule with impressive showings in the 3K and mile events at Wisconsin's St. Valentine's Invitational.
FULL RESULTS
Northwestern dominated the 3K by taking the Top-5 spots and placing eight in the Top-10. Rachel McCardell, Amanda Mosborg and Kalea Bortolotto all went sub-10 minutes in the event and took the top three spots. In the last 20 years, Northwestern has only had 10 individuals break 10 minutes in the 3K and this season alone the 'Cats have had six athletes break that barrier.
McCardell's performance in the 3K was her indoor debut for the season and her time of 9:39.20 was a personal best. She returned to the track for the mile event where she paced her teammates Emily Casaclang and Ava Earl to run season-best times.
The Wildcats had three individuals place in the Top-5 of the mile event with Casaclang taking second (4:55.59), Earl placing third (4:58.42) and Fiona Lenth taking fifth with a time of 5:11.98. Casaclang's time ranks seventh all-time in program history for the mile. Both Casaclang and Earl's times were season bests and their times rank seventh and 10th in program history, respectively.
First year Audrey Bannister made her track debut by placing second in her heat of the mile.
The Wildcats will return to action at the end of March to compete in its outdoor schedule.
