Wildcats Grab Three Victories on Night 2 of Purdue Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Tyler Lu, Jasmine Nocentini and Kevin Houseman secured victories for Northwestern Swimming and Diving tonight as the Wildcat men move into third place and the women stay second heading into the final day of the Purdue Invitational.
Lu chopped almost two seconds off his time from the preliminaries to win the men's 400-yard individual medley in 3:50.46, the first of the meet for the Northwestern men.
A few events later, Nocentini, who already won the 50 free yesterday, got her hand on the wall first in the women's 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 58.47 for her second win of the competition.
Houseman ensured the Wildcats swept the sprint breaststroke events, dominating the field by over a second with a season-best 51.83.
Justine Murdock and Ashley Strouse also had strong swims, grabbing second-place finishes for the Northwestern women in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard freestyle, respectively.
The Wildcats had five additional top-three placings courtesy of the women's 200-yard medley relay (Murdock, Nocentini, Miriam Guevara and Ally Larson), Ryan King (men's 400-yard individual medley), Hannah Brunzell (women's 100-yard breaststroke), Guevara (women's 100-yard backstroke), and Marie Hopkins (women's 1-meter diving) finishing third in their respective events.
Action at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center continues tomorrow, featuring the men's and women's 1650-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, platform diving, and 400-yard freestyle relay to conclude the meet.
