Wildcats,

Last weekend we celebrated Homecoming, an opportunity for Wildcats of all ages to return to Evanston, some for the first time in many years. Everywhere I go, I am greeted by Northwestern alumni, but speaking with them on our campus is the best reminder of how much our home is always changing. Each summer, we say goodbye to one class of 'Cats, and only months later welcome a brand-new one.

In the midst of that annual change, the people who remain are always pushing Northwestern further than previous generations would have ever imagined possible. Over the ten years since the seniors on our 2012 Gator Bowl team departed, this University has changed in so many ways, seen and unseen, in service of current and future generations of Wildcats.

In addition to all the incredible things our student-athletes, coaches and staff have given our community to be proud of, it was exciting to share the initial design concepts for a dynamic new Ryan Field with so many invested Wildcats. Ryan Field opened in 1926, and its only significant update since then came in 1997. The stadium is the largest gathering place for our community, whether at football games or Commencement activities, and is long overdue for an upgrade.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of the Ryan family and the unwavering support of our Board of Trustees, the new Ryan Field will be a venue that our University AND the City of Evanston can be proud of. The new facility will be an unmatched gathering place to build community throughout the year, and it is just the latest example of Northwestern pushing the bar higher and higher, generation after generation.

Each of you plays a role in elevating and pursuing the culture of excellence that exists here. In all of your day-to-day work supporting our student-athletes, you are re-shaping what an athletic department is and can be through an incredible evolution in our industry.

Thank you for your continued support. Go Cats!

Positively,

Dr. Gragg
