EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern Athletics and The Brandr Group (TBG) have established a group licensing agreement for Wildcats student-athletes covering all 19 varsity teams. This collaboration enables Northwestern student-athletes to profit off their Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) using the school's official trademarks and logos.
"We are thrilled to continue to position our student-athletes for success in the ever-changing landscape of Name, Image, and Likeness," Northwestern Athletics, Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director Tyler Jones said. "Our partnership with The Brandr Group affords us yet another opportunity to provide our student-athletes with critical tools to maximize their NIL potential. This partnership will also afford Wildcat fans from across the world access to customized merchandise and apparel featuring student-athletes who opt in into the group licensing program"
The partnership with TBG allows for the collective use of student-athletes' NIL in licensing and marketing programs, co-branded with Northwestern logos and marks. TBG will facilitate group licensing opportunities on behalf of the student-athletes. Participation in the program is voluntary and will not limit any student-athlete's NIL rights in their individual licensing and marketing activities. Potential licensees interested in learning more should contact Ryan Moss at TBG.
TBG, a brand management, marketing and licensing agency, will manage and administer the program as well as develop licensing opportunities on behalf of the student-athletes. With decades of collective management experience for some of the world's largest brands, TBG also manages group rights programs for the NFL, NBA and MLB players associations in the college space.
Across the professional sports landscape, products that combine team logos and player names and numbers have accounted for a significant amount of licensed merchandise sales for decades, and this program will unlock similar opportunities for student-athletes at the collegiate level.
"As a company that puts student-athlete opportunities first, it's a privilege to work with a university whose student-athletes have been a consistent voice for the athlete's NIL rights, which have now become a reality," said Wesley Haynes, TBG CEO. "We look forward to working closely with the Northwestern Athletics team to develop co-branded opportunities through this group licensing agreement. This will allow Wildcat student-athletes to monetize their NIL through the school's merchandising portfolio, while also creating new engagement opportunities for fans."
Fans can expect to be able to purchase official Northwestern merchandise, including team jerseys with the name and number of their favorite players who have joined the respective group licensing program, once TBG enters into agreements with applicable school trademark licensees.
