EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's cross-country team took another step forward at the Michigan Invitational. At the University of Michigan Indoor Track, four runners showed signs of significant growth by improving on their personal bests in Ann Arbor on Saturday.

Three 'Cats kicked off the meet with performances in a tactical women's mile. In heat 3, first-year Ava Earl finished fifth in her first ever collegiate mile race. Earl battled with post-collegiate and Big Ten competitors in a tactical race to cross the finish line in 5:02. Teammates Deepti Choudhury (5:06) and Lotte van der Pol (5:13) finished 12th and 13th, respectively. Choudhury, a first year, ran a personal best in the event. Elite runner Alsu Lenneman won the section in 4:56.

In heat 2 of the women's 3,000 meters, two more 'Cats notched personal bests. With a 36-second final 200 meters, Amanda Mosborg kicked her way to seventh place. The senior's time of 9:58 is four seconds faster than her performance at the Gene Edmonds Invitational on January 8. Behind Mosborg, sophomore Emily Casaclang placed eighth in 10:01, taking 13 seconds off her previous personal best. The heat was won in 9:51 by Fian Sullivan-Sweeney of the University of San Francisco.

Watch the 'Cats continue their indoor track season at the Terrier Classic in Boston, Massachusetts on January 28.
