EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern's cheerleading program earned a handful of awards at a three-day camp sponsored by the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) in Louisville, Kentucky, over the summer. The Wildcats posted a second-place finish in the All-Girl D-1A for Rally Routine, received three Superior Blue Ribbons and garnered the College Spirit Stick.

The 'Cats were among 275 collegiate cheerleaders in attendance from 15 universities and colleges where teams showcased their spirit squad and competed within their division for evaluation. Northwestern's spirit squad director and cheerleading coach Valerie Ruiz summarized the camp experience as truly amazing and that it set a strong cornerstone for a solid foundation for the team.

"These ladies truly set the bar high for themselves and I'm beyond excited to bring the material they learned back to campus to perform on the field and help promote school spirit around campus," said Ruiz.

The NCA holds cheer camps and brings cheerleaders together to learn new skills under qualified instructors and compete against other schools in dance, jumps, tumbling and stunting.
