EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern women's basketball will participate in the 2021 Paradise Jam to the US Virgin Islands, tournament officials announced on Monday. It is Northwestern's first appearance in a Paradise Jam tournament, which began in 2000.
The Wildcats will join Arizona (Pac-12), DePaul (Big East), Pittsburgh (ACC), Rutgers (Big Ten), South Dakota (Summit), Texas A&M (SEC), and Vanderbilt (SEC) at the University of the Virgin Islands Sports and Fitness Center on St. Thomas from November 25-27, 2021. The event will be back in the Virgin Islands after COVID-19 forced it to be cancelled in 2020.
Northwestern is one of six 2020 NCAA Tournament teams participating in the tournament, with two additional Power Five conference schools set to attend.
All games will be streamed live on ESPN3 or ESPN+. The event gives teams a guaranteed three games, splitting the field into two, four-team tournaments. The champion of each division will be determined by best record, with scoring margin as the tiebreaker. The full game schedule will be announced at a later date.
The Wildcats are coming off their eighth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history and first tournament win since the 1993-94 season. Three starters will return for the 2021-22 season, including 2021 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-BIg Ten honoree, guard Veronica Burton.
