Cannon, Thomas, Deakin Secure All-American Honors

ST. LOUIS – Three Northwestern wrestlers earned All-American honors during Day Two of the 2021 NCAA Championships, with Chris Cannon, Yahya Thomas and Ryan Deakin all securing at least top-eight national finishes.
Cannon and Thomas each earned their first-career All-American honors with victories at the start of the Friday evening session. Deakin secured his third-consecutive All-American honor with a dramatic, 5-4, quarterfinals victory over North Dakota State's Jared Franek.
Deakin becomes the ninth wrestler in Northwestern history to earn three-or-more All-American accolades, as well as the first 157 lb wrestler since Jason Welch (2011-13).
This marks the second-straight season in which the Wildcats have had three or more All-Americans, as well as the first time Northwestern has had at least three top-eight national finishers since the 2014 NCAA Championships.
Thomas, Deakin, Cannon will all be in action on Saturday for the final day of the championships, with Thomas and Deakin wrestling in the consolation semifinals while Cannon will face Virginia's Louie Hayes in the 7th place match.
