'Cats Slam Their Way By the Spartans

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Northwestern put on a historic offensive display by hitting three grand slams in the three first innings that led to a 14-2 win over Michigan State to open a four-game weekend series ion Greenville, S.C.
 
Stephen Hrustich, Michael Trautwein and Vincent Bianchina each put one over the wall with the bases loaded to put the Wildcats in front, 13-1 by the end of the third frame. Bianchina finished with three hits on the evening, while Trautwein tallied five RBI.
 
Mike Doherty got the nod on the mound for the Wildcats and tossed 8.1 innings, allowing two runs while fanning five. Ben Grable came in the final two outs.
 
Anthony Calarco touched home plate three times, while going 3-for-2 at the dish.
 
The Wildcats return  to action tomorrow for a twin bill beginning at 2:30 p.m. CT.
