No. 8 Wildcats Dominate Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa – No. 8 Northwestern finished off a strong opening weekend of Big Ten play by defeating Iowa 6-1 for its fourth-straight victory.
The Wildcats improved to 6-1 on the season, having picked up a 4-3 win at Nebraska on Friday.
After Julie Byrne lost a three-set match in the No. 1 spot, the 'Cats rattled off five-straight victories with Maria Shusharina, Clarissa Hand, Briana Crowley, Caroline Pozo, and Christina Hand earning wins.
Crowley (7-6, 6-0), Pozo (6-4, 6-2), and Christina Hand (6-2, 6-2) all won in straight sets.
Northwestern also grabbed the doubles point 2-1, winning the last two matches. Christina Hand and Briana Crowley defeated Elise van Heuvelen and Samantha Gillas 6-1 in the No. 2 spot, while Clarissa Hand and Maria Shusharina beat Danielle Bauers and Danielle Burich 6-4 in the third spot.
The Wildcats return to action next Sunday, Feb. 21, as they welcome Illinois to the Combe Tennis Center at 3 p.m. CT.
