'Cats Make History with 163 Fall Academic All-Big Ten Honorees

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern set a new school record with 163 Fall Academic All-Big Ten honorees, the school announced Tuesday. It is the fourth consecutive year that the department has set a new Fall Academic All-Big Ten record.
Northwestern's 163 honorees tops last year's total of 155, the school's previous high for the fall season.
The football team set a new program record with 76 Academic All-Big Ten honorees, besting last year's total of 69 recipients. It is the fourth time in program history that the team has exceeded 50 honorees.
Women's soccer led the Big Ten for the second-consecutive year with 25 recipients, topping last year's mark of 23 honorees. Regan Steigleder was one of 60 Academic All-Big Ten honorees to post an unblemished grade point average.
Fresh off winning the first national championship in program history, Northwestern field hockey had 90% of its student-athletes that met the criteria for the academic distinction earn Academic All-Big Ten honors.
This marks the third time since the award was established in 2008-09 that all six fall programs boast double-digit recipients.
To earn Academic All-Big Ten distinction, an athlete must be in at least their second year at the institution and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0-or-better. The Office of Academic Services & Student Development plays a key role in ensuring that the athletic department succeeds in its mission of helping student-athletes perform well on the field and in the classroom.
