Wildcats Head to Columbus for ITA Midwest Super Regionals

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Eight Wildcats are headed to Columbus this weekend for the ITA Midwest Super Regionals.
Senior Clarissa Hand, juniors Briana Crowley and Christina Hand and sophomore Maria Shusharina qualified through seeding. Graduate Ema Lazic, senior Hannah McColgan and first year Justine Leong all qualified for Super Regionals by reaching the Round of 16 in the singles draw at the ITA Midwest Regionals, while McColgan and first year Sydney Pratt qualified as a doubles pair by reaching the quarterfinals.

Ch. Hand/Crowley will be competing in the doubles tournament as the #3 seed alongside teammates McColgan/Pratt. Shusharina, Cl. Hand, Crowley, McColgan, Lazic, and Leong will be competing in the singles tournament.
Both Cl. Hand and Shusharina and ranked in the ITA Preseason Top 125 for singles. Crowley and Ch. Hand are ranked 30th in the Preseason Top 60 doubles rankings.
Crowley/Ch. Hand most recently competed together in the doubles tournament of the ITA All-American Championship, beating the No. 2 seeded Duke in the second round en route to the quarterfinals. McColgan/Pratt are coming off a strong showing at the ITA Midwest Regionals, winning all three matchups.
Shusharina opened the season with three wins in a row over opponents from Duke, Virginia and Old Dominion at the UNC Invite. Cl. Hand defeated a three-time ACC Champion in her opening match of the season en route to a 2-1 opening weekend for her at the UNC Invite.
Shusharina and Pratt had a solid performance at the Wildcat Invite, advancing to the finals of their bracket and earning an impressive semifinal win with two singles victories over Duke.
The ITA Midwest Super Regionals features a 32-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles draw, with the regional doubles champion and both singles finalists qualifying for the ITA National Fall Championships on Nov. 4-7 in San Diego. Competition starts Friday and runs through Monday.
