Three Wildcats In Charleston for ITA All-Americans

EVANSTON, Ill. – Three Wildcats will participate in the ITA All-American Championships this week in Charleston, S.C. featuring over 80 of the best singles players in the country and 32 of the top doubles duos nationally. 

Senior Clarissa Hand will represent the Wildcats in singles, while the nationally ranked junior duo of Christina Hand and Briana Crowley will compete in doubles. Fans can follow results from the tournament page here, hosted by ITA.

Hand is one of 64 players in the qualifying draw, which will produce eight entrants in the main draw, which is a Round of 32 bracket set to begin on Wednesday. Hand will need to win three times, once on Monday and twice on Tuesday, to compete in a field of 32 of the top players nationally. The scoring is best of three set but with no ads. The senior went 2-1 last weekend at the Kitty Harrison Invitational at North Carolina, defeating Alle Sanford of North Carolina and Casie Wooten of Wake Forst. Hand dropped a two set decision to Thasaporn Naklo of Iowa State, who in the qualifying singles draw. 

Christina Hand and Briana Crowley will compete in the main draw of doubles, which features 31 teams. The draw begins on Wednesday, with one match per day taking place in the main draw. The format is best of three sets with no-ad scoring, with a 10-point tiebreak taking place instead of a third set. 

Crowley and Ch. Hand went 3-1 last weekend in Chapel Hill, recording wins over duos from North Carolina, Louisiana State and Kansas. 

There is a consolation draw for both singles and doubles, with the former starting on Tuesday and the latter starting on Thursday.
