Robinson Promotes Hodgson and Tapp to Associate and Assistant Head Coach

EVANSTON, IL – Director of Swimming and Diving Katie Robinson has announced the promotion of Andrew Hodgson and Jake Tapp to Associate and Assistant Head Coach respectively, on Wednesday afternoon.  
 
"Both Andy and Jake are phenomenal coaches and we are ecstatic?to have them continue to be a part of our Wildcats family," said Robinson"They both bring a specialized skill set to enhance the world-class experience of our student-athletes. Andy and Jake are known to go above and beyond for our student-athletes and bring lively energy and humor to practice every day. The two of them work tirelessly to bring enthusiasm and success to our recruiting efforts as well. They bleed purple through and through and their loyalty to Northwestern is a real win for us." 
 
Tapp joined the Wildcat staff on June 8, 2018 as an assistant coach after the program combined. Tapp, a former Olympian and world-record holder, joined NU after serving as an assistant coach at Wisconsin for the past two seasons. During his time in Madison, Tapp helped guide the women's program to a pair of top-20 finishes at the NCAA Championships, while assisting the men's side to a top-20 finish in 2017.

Hodgson joined the staff on June 28, 2018 in the role of assistant coach after serving the previous two years as an assistant coach at Virginia Tech. The former All-American at Florida State spent the four years prior to his time with the Hokies as the head swimming coach at the New Trier Swim Club in local Northfield, Illinois. As an assistant coach at Virginia Tech, Hodgson helped mentor 19 All-Americans and saw the Hokies break 17 school records.

"Since day one here with the Wildcats I knew the potential we hadand I am excited to help continue the momentum we have built. I want to thank Director of Swimming and Diving Katie Robinson, as well as Combe Family Vice President for Athletics and Recreation Dr Phillips for this opportunity. Go 'Cats!" 
 
In their time representing Arizona and Florida State, Tapp and Hodgson combined for 18 All-America honors, two ACC Championships, two NCAA runner-ups and a showing at the 2018 Olympics at Beijing.   
 
During their time with the 'Cats, both Hodgson and Tapp have helped to guide NU to 22 CSCAA All-Americans, three Big Ten Champions in the women's program, and the most points ever scored by the men's program at the Big Ten Championships.
