Wildcats Fall in Close One to Jayhawks, 4-3

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern fell 4-3 in a nail-biter with Kansas Sunday afternoon.
The Inci Ogut and Clarissa Hand forced the Jayhawks into a tie-breaker set for the doubles point in which Kansas eked out a 7-5 victory to move ahead 1-0.
Caroline Pozo drew the score even early in singles, taking a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 4 slot. Kansas took wins in the 2 and 5 singles to jump in front 3-1, but the 'Cats kept battling. Hannah McColgan forced a third set in the No. 6 slot with a 7-4 tie-breaker to win the second set 7-6.
Clarissa Hand fought to a 5-5 tie in the third at No. 3 singles before Kansas pulled away to clinch the match 4-1. The two teams played on with McColgan winning her match 1-6, 7-6, 7-5 and Julie Byrne closing out a 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 win with a X-X tie-breaking victory in the third set.
The Wildcats hit the road next for their second conference match of the season, taking on Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday March 7 at 11 a.m. CT
