Sim Leads Wire to Wire to Claim Bruin Wave Invitational

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Sophomore Kelly Sim led wire to wire at the 11th annual Bruin Wave Invitational to capture her first collegiate victory Tuesday afternoon.
Sim led four Wildcats in the top 20 as Northwestern posted their second-consecutive strong showing with a tied for third finish at 18-over.
After opening play with a tournament record 5-under 67 to grab the lead Monday, Sim played a steady final round with a 3-over 75 Tuesday to share the individual title with UCLA's Emma Spitz.
She matched the 14th-best 54-hole score in program history at 211. The Edgewater, New Jersey, native led the field in par-4 scoring (1-under) and birdies (13) and was tied for third among all competitors in par-3 scoring (1-over) and par-5 scoring (5-under).
Sim's victory gives the Wildcats an individual champion in each of their last two tournaments as first year Irene Kim captured the Lady Puerto Rico Classic two weeks ago.

Senior Broooke Riley posted her second top-10 finish of the season with a three-round total of 221 (5-over). After stumbling out of the gates on the front nine at 4-over through her first six holes, Riley made third birdies and nine pars down the stretch to finish Tuesday with a 1-over 73.
Sophomore Kelly Su and Kim also posted top-20 finishes by tying for 17th at 9-over. Kim posted a 2-over 74 in the final round, while Su finished with a 3-over 75.
The Wildcats will look to continue their strong spring play when they head to the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, South Carolina, March 6-8.
