COLUMBIA, S.C. - Northwestern dropped the second game of the series against South Carolina 12-3 on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Shawn Goosenberg showed off his electric bat, going 2-for-3 with a home run, double and a pair of runs.
The Wildcats got out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after an RBI single from Michael Trautwein driving in Shawn Goosenberg.
However, the Gamecocks quickly answered with three runs in the bottom of the first frame. They continued the offensive production in the second putting up five runs.
The 'Cats then hit homers to make it 8-3. Goosenberg hit his second deep-ball of the year in the fifth with Charlie Maxwell hitting his first of the year in the sixth.
After a Gamecock grand slam in the bottom of the sixth, pitchers Reed Smith and Anthony Alepra, making his season debut, held South Carolina without a run in the last three innings.
