'Cats Wrap Up Regular Season Against Minnesota and Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN - Northwestern Swim and Dive wrapped up the regular season with the women splitting the weekend defeating host Purdue 207-155 and faltered against #23 Minnesota 188-165. The men's team captured their fourth conference win defeating both Minnesota and Purdue, 200-153 and 184-169 respectively.  

The women kicked off the final day of competition with the relay team of juniors Maddie SmithMalorie Han and Calypso Sheridan and senior Nicole Aarts out touching their competition by over a second in the 200 Free Relay in a time of 1:33.34 

Reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Week, Ally Larson brought home the win in the 400 IM by nearly three seconds in 4:18.79 to earn her first win of the day. On the men's side, two-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week Federico Burdisso touched in 44.10 to lead the 1-3-9-10 NU finish in the 100 Free. Burdisso continued his dominance, also winning the 100 Fly in a time of 47.71. 

Sheridan was back in the pool to earn her third individual win of the weekend in the 200 Back in a time of 1:58.85 followed by teammates Emma Lepisova and Nicole Aarts in fourth and fifth. 

Sophomore Manu Mratos Bacarizo was the top finisher in the 200 back, touching in a time of 1:45.11. Bacarizo was followed closely by teammates Ryan Gridley and Jack Thorne who finished in 1:47.93 and 1:49.57 respectively. 

The 'Cats were also dominant in the board with first-year Markie Hopkins taking the top spot in the platform, scoring 277.00 points, 10 more than her next closest competitor. 

NU finished the meet strong, with the women's team of Han, Larson, Smith and Sheridan just out touching Minnesota to earn a top finish in 3:25.60. The men's team of Bobar, R. Gridley, Gately and F. Burdisso finished in 3:00.96 to earn second place. 

The 'Cats will take a short break from the pool before heading to the Big Ten Championships which will kick off with the women on Feb 19-22 in Iowa City, Iowa and the men will take the pool the following weekend, Feb 26-29 in Bloomington, Ind.
