Community Group of the Game Spotlight: Connections For The Homeless

12/9/2020 11:24:00 AM | 'Cats Give Back

Supported by Northwestern Medicine, Northwestern Athletics will spotlight a 'Community Group of the Game' during each week of a home and away football game.

In this week's spotlight, the athletic department recognizes Connections for the Homeless, an agency based in Evanston that provides essential services to people facing homelessness and housing insecurity.

The athletic department primarily collaborates with Connections for the Homeless through volunteerism and donations. Student-athletes from all 19 varsity programs support the shelter's mission by volunteering, and helping the organization pack lunches, sort through items and distribute materials to community members. Many staff and coaches also volunteer through Community Outreach Day, a proud tradition in the department that devotes one day to giving back to the Evanston community. Due to the health crisis and visitor restrictions, staff were unable to volunteer at the organization this past spring; however, they carried on the tradition by donating over 350 pounds of clothing items to benefit those in need.
