EVANSTON, Ill. – Despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, Northwestern recorded a school-record for the fall quarter with a 3.361 grade point average among its student-athletes and a team average of 3.389 across its 19 varsity programs
"To achieve this level of academic success while navigating the unprecedented circumstances presented by the pandemic is truly remarkable," said Combe Family Vice President for Athletics and Recreation Jim Phillips. "Our student-athletes and academic support staff deserve a tremendous amount of credit for their unwavering dedication to academic excellence."
The 'Cats had 56 perfect 4.00 GPA's this fall, while nearly 80% of all of NU's student-athletes achieved a GPA of over 3.00.
The Wildcats' women's golf team achieved a near-perfect 3.832 average, the highest among NU's 19 varsity programs.
Northwestern lacrosse and men's golf also excelled in the virtual classroom, each posting an average above 3.50.
Earlier this month, Northwestern turned in a school-record 155 Fall Academic All-Big honorees, which marked the third-consecutive fall in which the Wildcats bested their previous department record.
Northwestern University was recently named as the ninth-best national academic institution in the U.S. News & World Report 2021 rankings. It joined only Stanford University as the other Power Five school to be in the top-10.
