Community Group of the Game Spotlight: Girls in the Game

12/11/2020 8:38:00 AM | 'Cats Give Back

Supported by Northwestern Medicine, Northwestern Athletics will spotlight a 'Community Group of the Game' during each week of a home and away basketball game.

In this week's spotlight, the athletic department recognizes Girls in the Game, an organization that seeks to empower every girl to find her voice, discover her strength and lead with confidence through active sports and programs focused on health and leadership.

Northwestern student-athletes have interacted with Girls in the Game participants through National Girls and Women In Sports Day (NGWSD). Hosted by Northwestern Athletics, NGWSD is an annual event that recognizes the positive influence sports have played in the lives of young girls and women, while it also celebrates the advancement of females in the athletic sphere. In addition to collaborating through this event, the athletic department has hosted several members from Girls in the Game at both men's basketball and football games, as part of the Community Group of the Game initiative. Under normal circumstances, this initiative helps local organizations in the Evanston and Chicago communities receive an exclusive game-day experience by providing groups with admission to the game, a meal voucher and airtime on the jumbotron as the featured group of the game.
