EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern landed at No. 17 in the first AP Top 25 Poll for the upcoming 2020-21 season, as announced Tuesday by the Associated Press.
This ranking marks the second time in program history that the Wildcats appeared in the first AP Top 25 Poll, with the other occasion occurring in 2015-16, when Northwestern was ranked 19th. Last year, the Wildcats entered the Top 25 on January 20th at the No. 22 spot and worked their way up to No. 11 in the final AP poll of the season.
Northwestern is one of five programs in the Big Ten in the first edition of this year's poll.
Doug Feinberg from the AP wrote this of the Wildcats and their No. 17. ranking:
"Northwestern was ranked in the preseason poll for the first time since 2015, coming in at No. 17. Joe McKeown's squad was in the AP Top 25 for the final nine weeks last season, climbing to No. 11 in the final poll. There is a lot of excitement around the program because of senior Lindsey Pulliam, who was first team all-conference last year, and junior Veronica Burton, the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year."
