'Cats Split Dual to #21/#12 ASU

Tempe, AZ – Northwestern wrapped up their West Coast weekend with the women's team besting #21 ASU 164.5-133.5 and the men falling to the #12 Sun Devils, 155-143.
 
Senior DJ Hwang captured the Wildcats first win of the day, out-touching his competition by almost 10 seconds in the 1000 Free to finish in a seasons best time of 9:15.94.
 
In her first win of the day, junior Calypso Sheridan brought home the gold in the 100 back, leading the 'Cats 1-3-5 finish in the event with first-year Emma Lepisova and senior Nicole Aarts scoring valuable NU points.
 
The 'Cats went on to sweep the 100 breast and 200 fly on both the men's and women's side. First-year Hannah Brunzell led the 1-2-5 finish by junior Sophie Angus and senior Lindsay Adamkski in the 100 breast in a time of 1:01.99. The men finished with an identical 1-2-5 finish led by first-years Kevin Houseman and Marcus Mok who finished 1-2 respectively.
 
In the 200 fly, sophomore Miriam Guevara led the 1-3-6 finish of first-years Roza Erdemli and Danielle Nowaski to best second place by two seconds in 1:59.28. First-year Federico Burdisso continued an impressive opening weekend with a two second victory in a time of 1:45.95.
 
The women also swept the diving boards with first-years Markie Hopkins and Leah Parsons leading the Wildcats 1-2-3 finish and taking top marks in the 3 Meter and 1 Meter respectively.
 
Sophomore Manu Bacarizo led the charge for NU to finish 1-3-4 in the 200 back, followed by sophomore Ryan Gridley and senior Jack Thorne.
 
Mok brought home his first win of the day in the 200 breast in a time of 2:00.57, followed by teammates Henry Blaul and Houseman.
 
Other notable wins from the dual included Brunzell in the 200 breast, Guevara in the 100 fly and Sheridan and Blaul in the 200 IM to finish the day with 14 individual event wins.
 
The 'Cats will be back in the pool this Thursday as they take on Louisville at 6 pm at the Norris Aquatics Center.
