Evanston, IL- Northwestern swimmers and divers have been recognized among the best in the Big Ten, with first-years Federico Burdisso, Markie Hopkins and Ally Larson taking home four of six weekly awards, the Conference announced Wednesday afternoon.

Burdisso earned his third consecutive Big Ten Freshman of the Week award and his second consecutive Big Ten Swimmer of the Week. No first-year had taken both awards in the same week since Oct. 2018 and Burdisso has now done it twice in a row. Hopkins picked up her first career Big Ten Diver of the Week honors, the first time a first-year has won the award since Feb. 2017, while Larson also achieved her first career weekly honors as Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

In Northwestern's two meets last weekend, Burdisso found the top of the podium five times in individual races, out touching competition in the 50, 100, 200 and 500 free and the 100 fly. Burdisso knocked off a school and pool record in the 200 fly that had stood for 12 twelve years, coming in at 1:34.15. Not satisfied there, he toppled the 100 fly pool record in Wisconsin, only taking 47.48 seconds to out touch the Badgers.

Hopkins came out of the two-meet weekend with three first place finishes and an additional silver medal. Against Cincinnati, Hopkins scored a dominating 331.58 points in the 3M, beating the second-place finisher by 35.55 points. Her score in the 3M topped last week's Big Ten Diver of the Week's score in the same event by 21.08 points.

The highlight of the week for Larson was her blistering time in the 200 fly of 1:56.32 against Cincinnati. This time is the best ever swam by someone sporting Northwestern's purple and white, breaking the previous record time of 1:57.82 set by Ellen Stello in 2017.

Burdisso, Hopkins, Larson and all the 'Cats will be back in action this Friday as they head to West Lafayette, Ind. for a tri-dual meet with Purdue and Minnesota.
