EVANSTON, Ill. – Sophomore guard Veronica Burton was named to the Naismith Women's Defensive Player of the Year 2020 Midseason Team, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club Thursday morning.

Burton is one of 15 players on the list that includes three Big Ten student-athletes. The Newton, Mass. native is one of just two sophomores on the list.

Burton leads the Big Ten in steals per game with 3.8 and ranks fifth in the country. In conference play, Burton has been racking up 4.6 steals per game. She led the conference in steals as a first-year last season with 2.8 per game.

Against Colgate in November, Burton eclipsed the 100 steals mark. She is the second-fastest player to 100 steals in program history behind Ashley Deary

As a team defense, the Wildcats rank in the top-20 nationally in turnover margin, scoring defense, and fewest personal fouls committed per game.
