Baekers Takes Home Big Ten Freshman of the Week

EVANSTON, IL β Following her collegiate debut in Palo Alto last weekend, redshirt first-year Bente Baekers took home Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Baekers led the Wildcats in their three games over the weekend, recording a team-high six points and scoring three goals. Her three goals are tied for the most in the conference and second-most in the nation.
In No. 15 Northwestern's season opener at No. 21 Stanford, Baekers scored two goals in a thrilling 4-3 shootout victory against the Cardinal. On Monday against Cal, she put the 'Cats on the board just 2:54 into the game in an eventual 3-0 shutout victory.
Baekers and Northwestern will be back in Evanston this weekend to square off against two top-25 teams, taking on No. 3 Duke on Friday, Sept. 5 at 3:30 p.m. and No. 13 Boston College on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 1:30 p.m.
