'Cats Kick Off Season at Illini Open

CHAMPAIGN, IL – The Wildcats opened their 2019 at the Illini Open on Friday evening finishing in third place.
"Today's meet gave several of our athletes an indicator of their starting point for the 2019 season. While many have yet to open up their competitive season, we challenge each of them to continue to learn and improve day in and day out. We look forward to seeing their progress over the next eight weeks," said head coach Jill Miller.
Three Wildcats placed in the top-25 on the 5K course. Leading the way was senior Kelly O'Brien who clocked in at 17:33.8 for the sixth place individual finish followed by sophomore Rachel McCardell with a 17:34.5 time for seventh place.
Illinois took home the team championship followed by Purdue. DePaul finished in fourth.
The Wildcats return to action on Friday, Sept. 13 at the Illinois State Invite in Normal, Ill.
