Nyfjall Selected to Compete in Arnold Palmer Cup

The first-year will compete on the Men's International Team, June 7-9.
EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern first-year David Nyfjäll has been selected to represent the International Men's Team at the 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup. The annual Ryder Cup-style competition will be played June 7-9 at The Alotian Club in Roland, Arkansas. Nyfjäll replaces Jovan Rebula, who withdraw due to injury.
The Alotian Club, one of American's premier golf clubs will host the 23rd-annual event. The competition will be the first to be played in the United States expanded to include men's and women's USA collegiate golfers against their counterparts from around the world.
"We are so excited for David that he has been selected for the International Team at the Arnold Palmer Cup," said Head Coach David Inglis. "It is a tremendous honor for him to represent his country and Northwestern in what is the showcase of international competition in college golf."
The international team is represented by 17 counties across six continents. The Uppsala, Sweden native will be part of the 24-team roster, made up of 12 women and 12 men, led by Mark Immelman and Jan Dowling.
After an outstanding rookie campaign, Nyfjäll was named the 2019 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and a First Team All-Big Ten honor. The rising sophomore led the Wildcats with a 71.72 stroke average, the lowest average by any first-year in program history, previously held by Luke Donald. With two individual wins this season and a PING Division I All-Region Team selection, Nyfjäll enters the Northwestern record book with the eighth best single-season stroke average.
The Arnold Palmer Cup was co-founded by Arnold Palmer and The Golf Coaches Association of American (GCAA) and began at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge, Orlando, Fla., in 1997. The event is a Ryder Cup-style tournament featuring the top male university/college players matching the United States against Europe. Beginning in 2019, the participants included corresponding women golfers who were added to both the USA and International teams and will became the only major tournament which features men and women playing side-by-side as partners.
Arnold Palmer Cup is supported by Arnie's Army Charitable Foundation. The Arnold Palmer Cup provides a platform for perpetuating Arnold Palmer's commitment to youth development and the growth of amateur/collegiate golf.
