EVANSTON, Ill. – Director of Swimming and Diving, Jeremy Kipp announced the addition of Kris Jorgensen as Northwestern's diving coach, Thursday afternoon.
"We're really excited to have Kris join the Wildcat family. I believe his experience as a Big Ten student-athlete and a coach in both the MIAC and Summit League will help us continue our pursuit of representing Northwestern at the highest levels as we prepare for the 2019-2020 season and beyond," shared Kipp. "His understanding of what it takes to compete in the Big Ten and on an international level will prove an invaluable asset to our student-athletes and coaching staff as we strive to achieve our goals for the program."
Jorgensen joins the Wildcats after spending three years on staff at University of South Dakota where he earned the 2015 Summit League Diving Coach of the Year award in his first season with the Coyotes and led two divers to All-Summit League honors.
"I am very excited to join the Wildcat family," said Jorgensen. "It is an honor to be joining such a great staff and prestigious university. I can't wait to start working with the talented student-athletes at NU. Go Cats!"
Under the guidance of Jorgensen, South Dakota star diver, Greysen Hertting earned her fourth Summit League Diver of the Year award, becoming the first diver in conference history to win the title in four consecutive years.
Prior to his time at South Dakota, Jorgensen spent three years as the head diving coach at St. Catherine University where he coached several all-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honorees and the two-time all-MIAC Diver of the Year. While in Minnesota, was also a coach for the Minnesota Diving Academy.
In his time as a Gopher Student-Athlete, Jorgensen was named the 2012 Big Ten Co-Diver at the Big Ten Championships at Minnesota. As a Norway native, he also earned 12 national championships and represented the Norwegian national team from 2004-2012 with appearances at the 2009 and 2011 World University Games and a top-8 finish at the 2008 European Championships.
