O'Brien's Win in 1,500-Meter Highlights Huskie Classic

DEKALB, Ill. — Junior Kelly O'Brien won the 1,500-meter to lead the Northwestern cross country program at the Huskie Classic hosted by Northern Illinois University Friday.
O'Brien led four Wildcats in the top-12 of the 1,500, crossing the finish line in 4:27.84. She finished nearly two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
Sophomore Amanda Davis (4:50.34), first year Sara McCoy (4:54.40) and sophomore Hannah Tobin (4:54.63) finished in the top three spots in Heat No. 2 to finish 10th, 11th and 12th, respectively.
Chicago's Big Ten Team also got an impressive performance from first year Olivia Verbeke. The Appleton, Wisconsin, native came across the line in 2:20.64 to finish second in the 800-meter, just .23 seconds behind the first-place finisher. Sophomore MacKenzie wilson finished fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:40.36.
The 'Cats will run their final regular season outdoor track meet at the Oxy Invite in Los Angeles, California, on May 11.
