NCAA Singles Championships: Clarissa Hand Advances

ORLANDO - Clarissa Hand picked up a three-set win in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Singles Championships with a 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 decision over Wake Forest's Emma Davis. Hand will face San Diego's Solymar Colling in the second round.

ORLANDO — First year Clarissa Hand begins the 2019 NCAA singles championship on Monday, May 20, when she takes on Wake Forest's Emma Davis in the first round at 11:30 a.m. CT. The championships run from May 20-25 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
 
Hand, who received an at-large berth, is first NU rookie to play in the singles championships since 2007. The Big Ten Freshman of the Year is ranked 39th in the latest ITA rankings. She had 12 singles victories in the dual season at the No. 1 position, the most of any Big Ten rookie, and has six wins against players in the latest ITA top-125, including three against opponents in the top-10. She was the lone Big Ten first year to earn multiple Big Ten Athlete of the Week honors.
