Wildcats Aim for WNIT Championship at Arizona

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern (21-14, 9-9 Big Ten) looks to secure its first-ever postseason tournament title as the Wildcats head to Tucson, Arizona to play in the WNIT Championship Game against Arizona. Tip off is set for 2 p.m. CT on Saturday, April 6. The game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.
This is the first time Chicago's Big Ten Team has made it to the final round of a national tournament under coach Joe McKeown, and the second postseason championship in program history.
The 'Cats enter the game after a 74-69 semifinal win over James Madison in Harrisonburg.
Senior forward Pallas Kunayi-Akpanah made Northwestern history with her 19th double-double of the season to surpass Nia Coffey for sole possession of the single-season double-double record. With 11 points and 11 rebounds at JMU, she was one of five Wildcats to score in double digits.
Lindsey Pulliam paced the 'Cats with a team-high 16 points. The sophomore is averaging 19.2 points per game in the postseason.
Junior center Abi Scheid went 4-for-6 from beyong the arc, scoring a total of 14 points. First-year guard Veronica Burton and sophomore guard Jordan Hamilton poured in 12 points apiece.
With a season record of 21-14, this marks seventh time Northwestern has won 21 games in a single-season and the most since 2015.
This is just the second meeting between the two Wildcat teams. Northwestern and Arizona battled in the now defunct NWIT game in 1996.
