'Cats Conclude 2018-19 Campaign at USA Fencing NAC

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah– The Northwestern women's fencing team wrapped up its 2018-19 campaign with some strong showings at the USA Fencing Division I National Championships & North American Cup this past weekend.
Alexis Browne, Alyssa Chen, Amy Jia, Jerrica Liao, Ella Lombard, Maggie Snider, and Pauline Hamilton competed as individuals, while the foilists and epéeists also competed as teams at the USA Fencing NAC. Lombard notched the Wildcats' highest individual finish at 21st place.
Additionally, Julia Falinska concluded her impressive rookie season at the Junior World Championships in her home country of Poland on Friday April 12th, where she finished 37th overall. The first-year earned All-American honors at the NCAA Championships back in March.
On Friday, Alexis Browne competed in Division I Women's Saber. The New City, New York native went 1-5 in pool play, finishing tied for 61st in a highly-competitive field.
On Saturday, the trio of Chen, Jia, and Liao placed sixth in the Division I Team Women's Foil competition. They fell to the Gutkovskiy Fencing Academy squad from New Jersey.
On Sunday, Lombard, Snider, and Hamilton competed in Division I Women's Epée. Lombard went 4-2 in pool play and defeated her first opponent in direct elimination before falling to eventual national runner-up Amanda Sirico of Notre Dame. Hamilton went 2-4 in pool play but fell to Sirico in the first round of DE's. Snider went 4-2 in pools but was defeated by USA Fencing's Victoria Toncheva.
On Monday, Alyssa Chen and Amy Jia competed in Division I Women's Foil. Chen went 4-2 in pool play and earned a first round bye in the direct elimination tableau before falling in the second round. Jia went 1-4 in pools but defeated her first opponent in direct elimination. Jia was defeated by the eventual national runner-up Iman Blow of Columbia University.
The #B1GCats wrapped up the USA Fencing NAC in the Division I Team Women's Epée competition Monday afternoon, where the trio of Lombard, Snider, and Hamilton earned a third place finish.
