Wildcats Produce 11 Runs but Fall Short at Mizzou

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Northwestern's offense produced a season-high 11 runs, but it was not enough in a 16-11 defeat at Missouri in game two of the series on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Casey O'Laughlin and redshirt first year David Dunn led the barrage at the plate for the Widlcats finishing with four RBI each. O'Laughlin went 4-5 with two doubles, a single and a two-run home run. Needing a triple in the ninth inning to complete a cycle, O'Laughlin smacked a double to left field, ending up just one base short.

David Dunn went 3-6 with two runs capped off by a three-run home run in the ninth inning.

The first year Shawn Goosenberg also had a strong day at the plate, going 3-5 with an RBI and a double. Jack Kelly had the other multi-hit day for the Wildcats, going 2-3 with an RBI as well.

Senior Willie Bourbon scored two runs and walked three times in five trips to the plate. Junior Alex Erro added an RBI on a sacrifice fly, while Ben Dickey and Jack Dunn each picked up a hit.

First year Parker Hanks also threw a solid 1.2 innings on the mound late, facing the minimum five batters while only allowing a walk.

The 11 runs were the most Northwestern scored since they put up nine on California in the fourth game of the season. It was the most runs scored since a 13-4 win in the antepenultimate game of the 2018 season against Belmont at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park.

Northwestern dropped to 4-8 on the season and will look to salvage game three against the Tigers tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
