Roberts Earns All-America Honors in 5K at NCAA Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Junior Aubrey Roberts made history by becoming the first woman in Northwestern history to earn All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships with a 10th-place finish in the 5,000-meter Friday evening.

Roberts became the first female cross country All-American in Northwestern history in the fall and made it two-for-two in her junior campaign by crossing the finish line in 16:04.47.

"Aubrey ran an amazing race and has only just begun," head coach 'A Havahla Haynes said. "With this being her first NCAA track championship, she was intentional and had her focus on working from the back of the race forward to crack the top-8. As the first Northwestern representative on the indoor track she did it with pride and has solidified herself on the national stage."

The Eau Claire, Wisconsin, native settled into the middle of the pack at the start of the race and founder herself in 14th place through 2,000 meters. She moved her way into 11th with six laps remaining and used a strong kick to catch the competitor in front of her for the 10th-place finish.

Roberts and the Wildcats will kick off the outdoor portion of their schedule in California in the last weekend of March at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival and Stanford Invitational.
