All of the Wildcat runs were scored via the long ball — a three-run shot by Willie Bourbon in the first inning and a grand slam by Leo Kaplan in the sixth inning.
The Kaplan grand slam game the Wildcats a 7-6 lead entering into the eighth inning, but the Boilermakers scored three runs in the final two innings to prove victorious.
Other than the home runs, the Wildcats were led by a 2-for-4 performance by redshirt first-year David Dunn, who improved his batting average to .356, the fourth-best mark in the Big Ten.
Seven different 'Cats, including David Dunn, scored a run in the contest. Dunn leads Northwestern with 15 runs scored this season.
Bourbon drove in three runs via the long-ball, moving his season RBI total to 12, tying with Jack Dunn for the team lead.
Sophomore Ryan Bader was the first Wildcat to come out of the bullpen, allowing only one run over 2.2 innings pitched. He fanned three in the outing.
The Wildcats will play a midweek at Chicago State on March 27 at 3 p.m. CT. After that, Northwestern will play a three-game home set vs. San Jose State on March 29-31.
