EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 14 Northwestern will travel out west this weekend to take part in the prestigious 2019 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Wrestling Invitational. Competition will begin Friday morning and will continue throughout the day on both Friday and Saturday.

The CKLV Invitational will feature an impressive field of 32 teams, including 16 of the 25 currently ranked in the NWCA Coaches' Poll. Six of the top ten and eight of the top 15 teams, including Northwestern, will be on display at the tournament. The tournament as a whole will include over 100 ranked grapplers, including three of the four NU wrestlers currently slotted inside the top 17 of their respective weight classes by The Open Mat.

The Wildcats are coming off two-straight home victories over No. 14 Northern Iowa in the home opener on Sunday, Nov. 17 and North Dakota State on Sunday, Nov. 24 and have seen multiple wrestlers shoot up the national rankings. Slotting in at No. 2 in The Open Mat polls at 157 lb in the rankings is junior Ryan Deakin. Deakin has dominated in the Wildcats' three duals this season, going 3-0 with two major decisions and a fall. Ranked No. 11 at 197 lbs, redshirt first-year Lucas Davison has also started 3-0 on the season, including a 9-1 major decision in his last outing vs. North Dakota State. Staying ranked at No. 17 at 149 lb is Yahya Thomas, who has earned two major decision victories in his three bouts this season.

Deakin, Davison and Thomas will make up the nine wrestlers Northwestern is sending to Las Vegas this weekend, the other Wildcat grapplers include Michael DeAugustino, Jack Tolin, Shayne Oster, Tyler Morland, Jack Jessen and Jack Heyob.

One Wildcat who will not be making the trip to Las Vegas is No. 3 Sebastian Rivera, who instead will travel to Puerto Rico to participate in the qualifiers for the 2020 Olympics.
