EVANSTON, Ill. — Two-time All-American and three-time NCAA qualifier Emery Parker has joined Wildcat wrestling staff as a volunteer assistant coach, Head Coach Matt Storniolo announced on Thursday.

"I am thrilled to welcome Emery to our staff," said Storniolo. "He is a phenomenal wrestler and compliments our staff perfectly. I have no doubt that he will approach coaching with the same passion and fire that we saw from him in competitions these last four years."

Parker spent the last five seasons as a member of the University of Illinois' wrestling program. As a competitor, he posted a career 86-23 record, with his career .788 win percentage ranking 16th in program history.

During his redshirt senior campaign in 2018-19, Parker started the season 11-0 en route to a 24-5 overall record, leading his team in wins. Parker recorded a third-place finish at 184 lbs in the 2019 the Big Ten Championships for the best conference finish of his career. The Wadsworth, Ill. native then concluded his collegiate career by earning his second-career All-American honors after finishing in fifth place at 184 lbs at NCAA Championships.

As a junior in 2018-19, he placed third at 184 lbs after winning his final seven matches at the NCAA Championships, four of which came against higher seeds, to earn his first-career All-American nod.

"I'm excited to employ my passion for the sport and add value to a tough team with a ton of potential!" said Parker.

Prior to his time with the Fighting Illini, Parker wrestled at Warren Township High School. As a senior in 2014, he was a Confrence, Regional and Sectional Champion before finishing as a state runner-up in the IHSA finals. Also in 2014, he placed fourth at the Senior Nationals.

Northwestern wrestling is 2-1 in duals this season and most recently finished ninth at the annual CKLV Invitationals, headlined by Ryan Deakin taking home first place in the 157 lb division for a second-straight year, while Michael DeAugustino (125) and Yahya Thomas (149) each turned in impressive third-place performances. The Wildcats will be back in action on Dec. 29-30, when they host  the 57th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands championships, held at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
