Records Continue to Fall on Day Two of TYR Invite

Evanston, Ill. -- Northwestern caps off the second day of the TYR Invitational in first place with a total of 931 points for the women's team and 768 points for the men's team.
The prelims got off to an exciting start, with several swimmers smashing through the team's season records and first-year Hannah Brunzell setting a new pool record and hitting the all-time record book in the 100 breast with a time of 59.84.
Northwestern swept the 100 fly prelims. Junior Calypso Sheridan set the team's season high and made it to the all-time record book with a 53.60; her sights set on the pool record of 53.55. Meanwhile on the men's team, sophomores Manu Bacarizo, Ezra Mizgala, Patrick Gridley and first-year Sam Dailley all set season highs and surpassed the previous season high of 49.96.
The Wildcats had 42 athletes qualify for the afternoon championships, which kicked off with the 'Cats sweeping the 200 medley relay for women's and finished second on the mens. The women's team of Sheridan, Brunzell, junior Maddie Smith and senior Nicole Aarts out touched a second Northwestern team of first-year Emma Lepisova, junior Sophie Angus, sophomore Jasmine Hellmer and senior Malorie Han. The men's team of Bacarizo, first-year Kevin Houseman, Dailley and sophomore Andrew Zhang touched in 1:28.41 which is a new season's best.
Sheridan jumped in next and blew past the pool record for the 100 fly set by Nan Liu in 2009 with a time of 52.69, putting her in second place just behind Miriam Guevara in the all-time record book. She won the event and was back in the pool for the 100 breast.
The 'Cats dominated off the blocks in the 100 breast finals. The women's team swept the championship heat taking the top four spots. Brunzell beat her previous record set in the morning with a time of 59.76. Shortly after, the men's team took first and second place while Houseman put himself in second place on the all-time record book to secure an NCAA B cut and his first collegiate win.
Meanwhile the men's diving team swept the 3M finals, with first-year Henry Schrirmer clinching first place and setting a new season high with a final score of 376.05. The women's diving team had similar success, as first-year Markie Hopkins emerged victorious in platform diving with a final score of 221.65.
