‘Cats Down MSU to Sweep Weekend

EAST LANSING, MI
– Northwestern swept Big Ten rivals Michigan State Saturday afternoon in East Lansing to put a stamp on their perfect weekend.
 
The Wildcats kicked off the day dominating the relays, taking the 400 medley relay on both the men's and women's side. The women's team of Calypso Sheridan, Hannah Brunzell, Miriam Guevara and Maddie Smith touched in a time of 3:40.97 to  get the 'Cats started with 11 team points. The men's team of Manu Bacarizo, Marcus Mok, Ben Miller and Andrew Zhang followed suit, touching in 3:17.53 for the NU win.

In the 200 free, the 'Cats delivered a 1-2 punch, with junior Krystal Lara just out-touching teammate Ally Larson for a combined 13 points.
 
Junior Ryan Gridley led the 1-2-4 finish for the Wildcats in the 100 back, touching in a seasons best time of 49.86. Mok secured his third win of the day in the 200 breast in a t time of 2:00.05, almost five seconds faster than second place for a new seasons best.  
 
First-year Yulia Groysman led the 1-2 sweep of the 500 free, touching a seasons best 4:58.71. The first-year out-touched her competition by over nine seconds.
 
On the boards, the 'Cats tallied four NCAA Zone diving cuts with Jaye Patick, Markie Hopkins, Yohan Eskrick-Parkinson and Evan Labuda each secured cuts.
 
The Wildcats finished the day with 20 event wins, 11 of which were 1-2 sweeps, to outscore the Spartans 171-129 for the women and 172-126 on the men's side.
 
The 'Cats will be back in the pool when they host their annual TYR Invitational November 22-24 at the Norris Aquatics Center.
