BARRANQUILLA, Columbia — Northwestern junior Krystal Lara and incoming first year Miriam Guevara picked up medals at the 2018 Central American & Caribbean Games. Guevara took home two gold medals for Mexico, while Lara picked up a silver and bronze for the Dominican Republic.

Guevara's time in the 100 fly of 59.31 not only earned her a gold medal but also set a meet record. Guevara followed up that performance by helping Mexico capture gold in the 4x100 medley relay. Mexico took home 43 medals at the CAC Games, including 15 gold medals.

Lara swam in six events at the Games, earning a silver in the 200 back and bronze in the 100 back. The rising junior qualified for the Central American and Caribbean Games, following a dominate performance at the Dominican Republic's National Championship.

Lara won every event she swam in, including the 100 and 200 freestyle, 50 and 100 fly, and the 50, 100 and 200 backstroke.  In addition, she broke seven national records and earned the high point winner award, scoring the most points in the meet.
