LONDON – A pair of former Northwestern women's tennis standouts squared off Thursday in the opening round of qualifying for the 2018 Wimbledon Wild Card Playoffs at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

Samantha Murray ('10) was able to hold off Alicia Barnett ('16) for a 6-4, 6-7 (1), 6-2 victory to advance to the quarterfinal round of qualifying. Murray is seeded third in the qualifying draw.

The winner of the qualifying draw will be granted a wild card entry into the Wimbledon main draw which gets underway July 2.

Murray is seeking her third appearance in the Wimbledon singles main draw after previously participating in 2013 and 2014.
